📢 The NZ 2026 Health Research Council Programme Grant round is open.
Two programme categories are available:
– General: for projects designed to improve health outcomes for New Zealanders
– Rangahau Hauora Māori: for projects contributing to Māori health gains, upholds rangatiratanga and utilises and advances Māori knowledge, resources, and people.
The HRC has introduced several changes to this year’s round so read carefully the new guidelines to ensure your project aligns with their expectations. In particular, pay close attention to how 2026 Programme applications must address:
– Health research priorities
– HRC requirements
– Scope of interest for the HRC
The HRC has released the recording and slides of the webinar session they held on 25 August 2025.
It is strongly recommended to be acquainted with the Government Policy Statement on Health 2024-2027, the NZ Health Strategy and the NZ Health Research Prioritisation Framework.
💲 Programmes are usually funded for up to 5 years for up to NZD$5,000,000.
📅 Deadlines:
– NEW: Programme applications must be created on the HRC gateway by Friday 31 October 2025
– Full applications submission deadline will be Thursday 6 November 2025
– Results will be announced in April 2026
